BUDAPEST, Hungary, JUNE 14, 2004 (Zenit.org).- For the first time since the fall of Communism, a Catholic radio began broadcasting nationally in Hungary on a medium-wave frequency.
A group responsible for the programs obtained a seven-year license from the National Authority of Radio and Television Broadcasting Stations, Vatican Radio reported last Friday.
The radio programs, promoted directly by the Church in Budapest, will include not only ecclesial and cultural topics, but also news reports, interviews and other services.
According to Archbishop Istvan Seregely, president of the Hungarian episcopal conference, the new broadcasting station will be a means of evangelization for a society that "must and will be able to compensate for great gaps" left by the former regime in the realm of values and spirituality.
