VATICAN CITY, JAN. 13, 2008 (Zenit.org).- The president of the West African country of Benin expressed his gratitude to Benedict XVI for the Church's work in his nation.
President Thomas Yayi Boni visited the Pope on Saturday, accompanied by his wife and an entourage. The Holy Father and the president had a 15-minute private conversation in French.
The Vatican press office reported that the meeting focused on Benin's difficult socioeconomic situation, which has been aggravated by last October's floods.
