Bishops Approve Blessing for Newly Conceived

BALTIMORE, Maryland, NOV. 12, 2008 (Zenit.org).- U.S. dioceses may soon have a new blessing on the books -- one for a child still in the womb.

The U.S. bishops approved the Order for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb, in both English and Spanish, and for both within and outside Mass, on Tuesday at their general assembly in Baltimore.

The proposed blessing is distinct from the Blessing of Parents Before Childbirth already found in the Book of Blessings.

Before the new text can be used, it needs approval from the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments.
