Trappist Monk Killed in Nigeria

AWHUM, Nigeria, APRIL 3, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Brother Clement, a Trappist monk of Our Lady of Calvary here, was killed in a holdup March 25.

The missionary was traveling in the night bus from Lagos to Enugu. The bus was attacked somewhere between Onitsha and Awhum, toward the end of the journey.

Brother Clement was just over 40 "and much loved by everyone. Awhum and all the monasteries of the region counted on him as their specialist mechanic," said a statement from the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. "His death is the cause of great sorrow for Dom Bertrand and the Awhum Community."
