Albania Announces a 'Mother Teresa Year'

TIRANA, Albania, SEPT. 14, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Albanian authorities declared 2004 to be "Mother Teresa Year'' and set aside Oct. 19 as a national holiday in her honor, the Associated Press reported.

The nun, who died in 1997, is expected to be beatified on Oct. 19 at the Vatican.

Mother Teresa was born to an ethnic Albanian family as Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia. She went to India in 1929 and dedicated her life to serving the poor and dying.
