VATICAN CITY, FEB. 27, 2004 (Zenit.org).- The Vatican's secretary of state expressed the Holy See's concern about the turmoil in Haiti.
At a press conference Thursday, Cardinal Angelo Sodano said: "The situation in Haiti causes us much concern."
Rebels who had overrun half of Haiti seized another town today and closed in on the capital of Port-au-Prince, where looting erupted and supporters of embattled President Jean-Bertrand Aristide fired guns in the air, the Associated Press said.
In his statements reported by the Missionary Service News Agency, the cardinal also called for a more active U.N. role in the Mideast and Africa, especially in Congo and Uganda.
