(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 07.25.2023).- On the morning of Monday, July 24, Pope Francis received in audience at the Vatican Apostolic Palace the Honorable Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda. The following day, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the Prime Minister met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, accompanied by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial conversations held at the Secretary of State’s office, they discussed the good relations between the Holy See and Uganda, highlighting the role played by the Catholic Church in the country. The occasion was also suitable for addressing topics of common interest and exchanging views on the situation in the region. In the audience with the Pope, the conversation revolved around Uganda’s hospitality towards migrants and refugees not only from Africa but also from Central Asian countries, a generosity that deeply moved the Pope.

As a gift, the Pope presented the Prime Minister of Uganda with a bronze artwork representing a dove carrying an olive branch, with the inscription “Be messengers of peace,” as well as several copies of pontifical documents, including the Message for the World Day of Peace 2023, the Document on Human Fraternity, and the book on the Statio Orbis of March 27, 2020, published by the Vatican Publishing House.
