Regnum Christi has been engaged since 2010 in a “path of renewal of the hand of the Holy See” in order to “provide itself with a suitable canonical form” indicated the movement in a press release issued on November 27, 2018.
The main purpose of the  Assembly in this process of canonical configuration is to agree on the text of the statutes of the future Regnum Christi Federation that after being ratified by the supreme organs of the consecrated branches will be delivered to the Holy See for final approval.
Prior to this second part of the General Assembly of Regnum Christi, the supreme organs of the Legionaries of Christ, the Consecrated and the Consecrated Laity met to express their opinion to the third draft of the Statute and offer their considerations to the General Assembly. of the Regnum Christi where all the members will be discussed, lay people included.
The Statute, a meeting point
The General Statute will express the meeting point of the discernment made during the renewal process among all the vocations of Regnum Christi in relation to the charism and mission, the spirituality, the government, the canonical form, the different vocational expressions of the charism, the participation of the laity, and the organization of apostolic activity.
The elements of convergence of the discernment of all of them (Legionaries of Christ, consecrated, lay consecrated and secular) are currently the existence of a common charism and mission, the recognition of the identity of each vocation, the original contribution of each of these vocations to Regnum Christi , the autonomy of each one of the consecrated branches, and the federation as the best canonical form to express, guard and promote the common charism.
Lay people with a voice and advisory vote
All the consecrated branches express the desire for a participation of the lay branch, even if a canonical expression of everything adequate to this reality is not found at this moment. The Government of the future federation, according to the current draft of the Statute, proposes a collegial government of the three consecrated branches in which the laity would participate with voice and with a consultative vote.
