BOGOTA, Colombia, JULY 3, 2001 (Zenit.org).- A German Catholic aid organization may be in line for a Mass of thanksgiving — in every parish in Latin America.

On the 40th anniversary of Adveniat, an aid group of the German episcopal conference, the Latin American bishops´ council (CELAM) sent a letter to its members proposing the celebration of a thanksgiving Mass for Adveniat´s activity.

The initiative was proposed in May at CELAM´s Ordinary Assembly, held in Caracas, Venezuela.

Bishop Luis Bambarén Gastelumendi, president of the Peruvian bishops´ conference, proposed the celebration of the Mass in all the continent´s parishes on the feast of St. Rose of Lima, patroness of Latin America (Aug. 30 in some countries; Aug. 23 in others), in thanksgiving for the meritorious work and for all German Catholics.

“This proposal was offered for consideration by the assembly´s participants and was accepted by an unanimous vote,” Bishop Jorge Enrique Jiménez Carvajal, president of CELAM, said in a letter.
