ROME, JAN. 31, 2006 (Zenit.org).- The Focolare Movement\'s official magazine, marking its golden anniversary this year, aims to be an instrument of dialogue and unity at all levels, says Chiara Lubich.

The monthly Città Nuova (New City) is now published in 37 editions and 22 languages worldwide.

Thus the magazine \"participates in the globalization process,\" explains Focolare founder Lubich in this month\'s issue. \"What is more, in some way it has anticipated it.\"

\"The media has a fundamental role\" today, she writes. \"It is an exciting era that reminds everyone, without excluding anyone, of the need for a new dialogue between individuals, states, cultures and religions.\"

\"Precisely in this period God has sent the charism of unity to contribute to fulfill Jesus\' last prayer: \'that they all be one.\' Città Nuova, a medium of bonding born in 1956, which was among our first initiatives, is now 50 years old,\" adds Lubich.

Not faddish

Città Nuova continues to be \"a small magazine\" and retains its \"immediately recognizable form and is not concerned about conforming to fashions that come and go,\" acknowledges the founder of the Focolarini.

The publication seeks to be \"an organ of opinion offered to all those who share in some way the ideals of peace, justice, freedom and truth,\" Lubich states.

\"On the religious plane it proclaims, helps, supports and spreads a present option of the Church, indicated by John Paul II in \'Nuovo Millennio Ineunte\': to bring about the Church communion, and to do so through a spirituality of communion,\" she stresses.

In the civil and social realm, Lubich adds, the magazine \"tries to give an adequate answer to a very new appeal that now, after the impact of the last wars and the rebellion of terrorism, emerges powerfully: The world is calling for fraternity.\"
