Bishop Amédée Grab of Chur, Switzerland, said he believes it is the only solution for the continent´s state of affairs. He noted his own nation, “which, with a foreign population [equal to] 20%, considerably surpasses the percentage in other countries.”
Bishop Grab made his proposal at the International Congress on the Integration of Peoples, held near Rome by the St. Charles Missionaries.
He observed that the Pope “has reaffirmed the right of every one to leave his own country and emigrate.” This is “a constitutive element of human dignity that must be integrated in all policies,” Bishop Grab said.
Every immigrant brings all his human and spiritual wealth, “if I do not see him as someone who challenges my cultural, national, ethnic, linguistic and economic identity, but as a brother or sister,” the bishop added.
