Celebrations for the one year anniversary of Pope Francis’ election will take place in various parts of the Holy Father’s native Argentina. Among the events will be a Mass of Thanksgiving presided by Cardinal Mario Poli, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, at the Metropolitan Cathedral.

In the poor neighbourhood of Bajo Flores, an exclusive interview with the Pope, recorded last week at his residence, will be played on a large screen. In his interview, the Holy Father spoke on education, work and the presence of the Church and Christ in poor neighbourhoods.

Churches around Buenos Aires will hold liturgical celebrations to commemorate the anniversary, in particular, in the Basilica of San José de Flores. The Holy Father spent much of his youth in the area and felt his vocational call there in 1953, after receiving the Sacrament of Confession.
