Auxiliary Named for Suwon, Korea

Bishop-elect is diocesan director of evangelization department

Pope Francis has appointed Fr. John Moon Hee Jong as auxiliary of the Diocese of Suwon, Korea.

John Moon Hee Jong was born in Gyeonggi-do, Korea, in 1966 and was ordained a priest in 1994.

In Suwon, along with one other auxiliary bishop, he will assist Bishop Mathias Ri Iong-hoon (Lee Yong-Hoon).

The new auxiliary holds a licentiate in liturgy from the St. Anselm Pontifical Athenaeum, Rome, and has served in a number of pastoral roles in the diocese of Suwon, including parish vicar, parish priests and spiritual director of the Catholic University (major seminary). He is currently diocesan director of the department for evangelisation, lecturer at the major seminary and parish priest.

The Diocese of Suwon has a population of some 7.7 million, with about 825,000 Catholics. They are served by around 480 priests and 1,700 religious.
