VALLETTA, Malta, APRIL 15, 2010 (Zenit.org).- A Saturday night barhopping with your local archbishop is hardly a typical way to spend the weekend.

Yet, last Saturday, a group of young journalists did just that as 64-year-old Archbishop Paul Cremona of Malta went visiting people at local bars to let them know Benedict XVI is coming to town.

The Pope will visit Malta for a two-day trip that begins this Saturday.

The archbishop spent a few hours among the youth of Paceville, evangelizing and, especially, inviting them to the meeting with the Holy Father that will be held Sunday afternoon at the Valletta Waterfront.

Archbishop Cremona, accompanied by a group of local journalists, made a tour of a dozen pubs of the area, speaking with hundreds of youth, at their tables or on the streets. He joked with them and occasionally shared a drink, but also spoke of more serious themes.

The meeting with the Pope is expected to draw some 10,000 youth from all over the island.
