Benedict XVI Receives Dalai Lama

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 13, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI's audience with the Dalai Lama, the Buddhist spiritual leader of Tibet, was described as a private meeting "of religious contents."
Today the Pope received in audience Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, reported Father Ciro Benedettini, vice director of the Vatican press office.
He said in statements to the press that it was a "private meeting, of courtesy, of religious contents."
The Dalai Lama, Nobel Peace prize recipient in 1989, met on numerous occasions with John Paul II in the Vatican.
After today's meeting, the Buddhist leader said in statements to journalists that the meeting had been "very, very pleasant."
