Bishop Named for Ferns Diocese

WEXFORD, Ireland, MARCH 1, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI has appointed Father Denis Brennan, a 60-year-old pastor from Taghmon, County Wexford, as the new bishop of the Diocese of Ferns.



The Pope's appointment was announced today.

Denis Brennan was born in the Parish of Rathnure, in Enniscorthy, in June 1945.

He received his secondary education in St Peter's College, Wexford. In September 1964 he entered St Peter's Seminary Wexford and was ordained for Ferns in May 1970.

He has been pastor of Taghmon since 1997. He is the current diocesan delegate for child protection and was previously vicar forane for the Wexford Deanery.

Bishop Eamonn Walsh has been overseeing the diocese as apostolic administrator.
