WASHINGTON D.C., FEB. 1, 2007 ( Zenit.org).- Praying for your country and for its public servants is a great gift, President George Bush told those who attended the 55th National Prayer Breakfast.
Some 3,000 U.S. politicians and dignitaries joined the president and first lady Laura Bush today for the annual meeting in Washington.
"The greatest gift a citizen of this country can give those of us entrusted with political office is to pray for us. And I thank those in our nation who lift all of us up in prayer," the president said.
The chief executive called the United States a nation that prays, and made special reference to American troops in Iraq.
He also mentioned a priest who died in the attacks on 9/11, Father Mychal Judge, quoting a prayer from the Franciscan priest: "Lord, take me where you want me to go, let me meet who you want me to meet, tell me what you want me to say, and keep me out of your way."
