Diocesan Caritas and parishes in Haiti have been giving emergency aid from the start of the catastrophe.

Caritas-Haiti’s appeal for funds is to provide post-emergency assistance to 3,000 families.

U.N. officials said today that the death toll from flooding could top 1,500 in Haiti alone. On Thursday, the death toll in the neighboring Dominican Republic was 339.

The National Caritas of the Dominican Republic is providing emergency humanitarian aid to thousands affected by the floods.
