DARFUR, Sudan, JUNE 19, 2007 (Zenit.org).- A Caritas employee was shot and killed on his way home from work at a West Darfur refugee camp on Sunday.
The Caritas/Action by Churches Together employee, Adam Adam, worked in a camp for displaced persons in West Darfur.
As he was on his way home from work Sunday evening, he was ordered by three men to stop. When he ignored them, one of the men shot him three times.
Caritas reported that this killing follows a spate of attacks in the camps around Zalingei. Since the beginning of June, five camp residents have been shot and killed. Hijackings of vehicles belonging to the United Nations and other international organizations also continue.
The charity organization says that the security situation in and around Zalingei continues to deteriorate. Some 100,000 refugees are encamped there and more continue to arrive.
