BEIJING, JULY 1, 2011 (Zenit.org).- As the universal Church marked the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, an episcopal ordination took place in China without papal mandate.
AsiaNews reported the ordination of Father Paul Lei Shiyin of Leshan, Sichuan.
Meanwhile, a priest that does have Vatican approval for episcopal ordination is under arrest.
He was to be ordained Wednesday as coadjutor for the Diocese of Handan. The 43-year-old bishop-designate was taken away Sunday by police after he had completed a five-day spiritual retreat in preparation for his ordination.
