VATICAN CITY, APRIL 29, 2008 ( Benedict XVI will attend a concert offered in his honor by Chinese musical groups, considered a sign that the language of music builds bridges between cultures and peoples.

That is how L'Osservatore Romano described the concert, scheduled for May 7 in Paul VI Hall, wherein the Philharmonic Orchestra of China and the Choir of the Shanghai Opera House will interpret Mozart's Requiem.

"With this Vatican performance of a great classic work of European music of religious inspiration, music proves to be a language and precious medium of dialogue between peoples and cultures," the Vatican daily said.

The orchestra will be in Europe for a series of concerts. It was founded in 2000 and is directed by Long Yu. Deng Rong, daughter of Deng Xiaoping (1904-1997), is a consultor for the group.
