Now, a book presented at the Venice Film Festival brings together these and other significant films on Our Lord.
Dario Edoardo Viganò, director of the Italian magazine Il Cinematografo, presented the book entitled “Cristo nel Cinema. Un Canone Cinematografico” (Christ in the Cinema: A Cinematographic Canon), published in collaboration with the pontifical councils for Social Communications and for Culture.
The book includes the minutes of the congress on the movies, held at the Urban University last December. The congress coincided with the Third Millennium Festival of Spiritual Cinema, organized by the same pontifical councils.
The book includes contributions from Elizabeth Lev, professor of art history; Andrea Piersanti, film expert and president of the Luce Institute; Monsignor Enrique Planas, director of the Vatican Film Library; and Polish film director Krysztof Zanussi.
Cardinal Paul Poupard, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, says in the book that he has “full confidence” that people in cinema will “be able to respond to the need for a supplement of hope.”
