Church in Philippines Opens Doors to Peace Talks

MANILA, Philippines, APRIL 21, 2004 (Zenit.org).- The Church in the Philippines has opened the doors to the peace negotiations between the government and the rebels of the New Democratic Front.



Monsignor Hernando Coronel, secretary-general of the Philippine bishops' conference, made the announcement, Vatican Radio reported.

"It is the first step toward a possible solution of the confrontations that have afflicted the Philippines for decades," Vatican Radio added.
