ROME, JULY 21, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Young people connected with the ecclesial Folocare Movement have come up with a contribution to World Youth Day: the Colordome.
Colordome is an initiative of the interdenominational group Youth for a United World. The project is conceived as a meeting place, a space dedicated to dialogue.
Some 800,000 young people are expected to attend the main events of World Youth Day, Aug. 16-21, in Cologne, Germany. Benedict XVI plans to be present Aug. 18-21.
Focolare’s young members wanted to make their contribution to World Youth Day, aware that “whoever experiences the love of God, realizes that his life changes.”
“Just like light that passes through a prism and refracts into the seven colors of the rainbow,” so do lives change “which have taken on color in contact with Love,” explain the promoters.
This is the experience that Colordome hopes to express and communicate. The focal point will be Cologne’s Friedenspark, on the banks of the Rhine.
Concert planned
From Tuesday, Aug. 16, to Friday, Aug. 19, talks on current topics and artistic numbers will be offered on a central stage, which will be surrounded by seven areas, each marked by a different color.
The red area, for instance, deals with a “culture of giving” and pertains to economy, work and consumerism. The indigo area deals with society and politics.
The initiative hopes to invite interaction on ways the power of love can change the different aspects of life. Young people will have the opportunity to meet and exchange reflections and experiences, to celebrate and pray, and to participate in sports activities.
A concert by the group Gen Rosso is scheduled for the evening of Aug. 17.
