ROME, OCT. 3, 2012 (Zenit.org).- As the synod of bishops on the new evangelization and the Year of Faith are on the horizon, Benedict XVI’s prayer intentions this month are focused on evangelization.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for October.

His general intention is “that the new evangelization may progress in the oldest Christian countries.”

And the Pontiff’s mission intention focuses on this month’s World Mission Day, that it “may result in a renewed commitment to evangelization.”

World Mission Sunday is set aside for Catholics to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. In 2012, World Mission Sunday is celebrated Oct. 21. Annually, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on the next-to-last Sunday in October.

The Pope’s message for this year’s World Mission Day has the theme: “Called to radiate the Word of truth.”
