Fr. Rodríguez Carballo Named Secretary of Congregation

In his first curial appointment, Pope Francis has chosen the minister-general of the Order of Friars Minor to serve as the secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

The appointment of Fr. José Rodríguez Carballo, a native of Spain, was announced Saturday.

Father Rodríguez Carballo will be ordained an archbishop.

José Rodríguez Carballo was born in Lodoselo, Spain, in 1953 and was ordained a priest in 1977. 

Since ordination he has served in several academic and administrative roles, most recently as minister general of the Order of Friars Minor. 

Archbishop-elect Rodríguez is a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples as well as already being a member of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
