Cardinal Agostino Vallini to Continue Overseeing Pope’s Diocese

Francis has asked Cardinal Agostino Vallini to continue as the vicar general for the Diocese of Rome. 

This was confirmed in a Latin-language letter dated May 18 and published by the Vatican on Thursday.

Cardinal Vallini was appointed to the position on June 27, 2008, by Benedict XVI.

The role also entails the positions of Archpriest of St. John Lateran Basilica and Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Lateran University.

Cardinal Vallini, 73, will celebrate his 25th anniversary of priesthood next year.
