ROME, FEB. 5, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Focolare founder Chiara Lubich is asking members of the Gen Movement to make Christ their companion on life's journey.
According to Lubich, the Gen Movement -- the youth of the Focolare Movement -- was born four decades ago to "give the world hope in the One who never deceives."
A communiqué from the movement included an exhortation from the founder: "Be on the way, 'always on the way,' but the Way is Jesus. May this 40th anniversary commit the Gen Movement even more to live with Jesus as a companion on the journey."
The Gen Movement's anniversary celebration linked young people representing 44 countries.
Lubich challenged the young people to be "athletes of God, heroes of the Gospel, witnesses of truth, demonstration that God is fullness, happiness, peace, beauty, wealth, abundance, love, mercy and confidence."
Benedict XVI greeted the group that attended the Jan. 10 general audience.
The Gen Movement has an estimated 18,000 members, including some in the Holy Land and Iraq.
