Pope Francis will meet with more than 50,000 ministrants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland during their pilgrimage to Rome in early August.

Set to take place Aug. 4-8, this annual tradition of traveling to the Eternal City aims to strengthen the spiritual potential of a group that is important to German pastoral ministry.

Organized every August by the dioceses of Germany, the event is dedicated to conveying back to the more than 430,000 children, adolescents and young adults in Germany who carry out altar service how they can best perform their work.

The key moment of the pilgrimage will be on the Tuesday when Pope Francis is to receive the group of pilgrims in audience.

Moreover, the week’s program also includes cultural and religious excursions, including a trip to Assisi.

In addition, the itinerary includes diocesan religious functions, as well as guided tours on themes related to history, culture and spirituality.
