The Pope touched on this point when commenting on Psalm 134(135) during today’s general audience, which gathered 15,000 people in St. Peter’s Square on a cold morning.
“The bond that exists between us and the Lord is marked by love, intimacy and joyful adherence,” the Holy Father said.
During his reflection, which he wished to “transform into a prayer,” the Pope focused on two articles of Israel’s faith that are part of the Christian Creed.
First, the Pontiff pointed out that God is “par excellence, the Lord of the cosmos,” because, as the Psalm states, “whatever the Lord wishes he does in heaven and on earth.”
The Holy Father then explained that this God of wonders is close to the human being, as the history of salvation demonstrates, particularly in the vicissitudes lived by the people of Israel.
The Pope highlighted the very foundation of faith, as expressed in the first of the Ten Commandments: “God is one,” but above all he is “a person who acts and speaks, loves and saves.”
