ATHENS, Greece, JUNE 7, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Greek Orthodox Church leaders hope the Athens Olympic Games of 2004 will be held under the ancient "Olympic Truce," whereby armed conflicts cease during the sports competitions.
Orthodox sources told the ENI news agency that the truce could be extended throughout the year 2004, not just during the Games.
A plan for the truce will be presented in September, an Orthodox Church leader told ENI. Officials hope the initiative has particular benefit for the Balkans.
