BERLIN, Germany, JULY 9, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Representatives of the Holy See and the German state of Lower Saxony exchanged instruments of ratification regarding modifications of a 1965 concordat.
A Vatican communiqué reported today on the June 28 meeting in Berlin of Archbishop Jean-Claude Périsset, apostolic nuncio to Germany, and Christian Wulff, who was at that time minister-president of Lower Saxony, though on July 2 he assumed office as president of Germany.
The representatives met in the apostolic nunciature and exchanged the instruments of ratification of an agreement signed on April 6 to regulate the legal situation of some Catholic schools run the by Dioceses of Hildesheim, Osnabruck and Munich.
The communiqué noted that this new agreement "modifies article 6 of the addendum to the 1965 Accord between the Holy See and Lower Saxony."
It provided for certain modifications in schools and an increase in the number of students in some diocesan schools.
At the ceremony were various deputies and Church leaders as well as a delegation of teachers and students from the schools in question.
