Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, says all parties need to work to implement Ukraine Agreements.

In a statement the Vatican official gave at the 28th Session of the Human Rights Council on Ukraine today, he reiterated the Holy See’s appeal to the international community to “respect international legality regarding Ukraine’s territory and borders,” noting that without this there will not be stability in Ukraine nor the region.

“The Holy See welcomes the steps taken to enforce the ceasefire,” Archbishop Tomasi stated, noting it hopes to arrive at political solutions “exclusively through dialogue and negotiation.”

All parties implementing the decisions taken by common agreement is crucial, the statement noted, adding they must acknowledge, in this context, “the efforts made by the UN, the OSCE and other relevant organizations with reference to the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreement.”

“In this urgent situation,” it noted, “the Holy See is committed to offering its assistance through its institutions and requests the charitable organizations of the Catholic Church to intensify and coordinate their efforts to provide assistance to the people of Ukraine.

The Holy See’s statement also conveyed the solidarity of the international community.
