The Islamic State has shown a video documenting the alleged ‘conversion’ of an Assyrian Christians to Islam, reported Fides.

On the websites under IS control, their militants have posted the video illustrating the alleged “conversion” to Islam of one of the Assyrian Christian hostages that, last February, they captured during the offensive carried out by the Islamic extremists in Assyrian villages in the valley of the Khabur River in the Syrian territory.

“These forms of propaganda are repugnant,” said the head of the Syrian Catholic archeparchy in Hassake-Nisibi, Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo, saying they “offend the conscience of every man and should provoke rebellion also on behalf of Muslims who have true religious piety.”

“It is obvious,” the archbishop stressed, “that the moral and physical violence on persons held hostage is another manifestation of barbarism in which we have fallen.”

He prayed the Lord helps and consoles those who suffer in his name.

In the footage, which was removed from YouTube, a man presented as an Assyrian Christian of the village of Tel Temit and identified with the name of Sargon David, seems to announce his conversion to Islam.

He pronounces the formula of “Shadada,” which declares: “There is no God but God, and Muhammad is his prophet,” and says he converted “voluntarily,” calling on Christians of Syria to do the same.

Meanwhile, one of the jihadists states that many of the Assyrian hostages have converted to Islam, “without any pressure from us.”
