Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of the US bishops’ conference, has blogged about the progress of the synod on the family, underway in the Vatican.
In a post today, the archbishop wrote that as the end of the synod nears he has a “deep hope”: that the final document “will advance two great goods. First, may it proclaim the time-honored teaching of the Church in a way that captures its inexhaustible beauty. Second, may this abundant beauty unleash the power of the authentic teaching to inspire the restored confidence that happy, healthy, and holy marriages and families are attainable today, as the Church heeds the call of Jesus to accompany families on this path.”
Archbishop Kurtz adds that two concepts that have received attention in reports about the synod need clarification, which he briefly provides. The first concept is “missionary outlook” and the second is the “principle of gradualness.”
“Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit guide this synodal process as we prepare for the General Synod in October of 2015,” the archbishop concludes.
