VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 4, 2006 (Zenit.org).- The Fides news agency of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples hopes to make ordinary Christian prayers available in the greatest possible number of languages.
The initiative is in response to Pope John Paul II's intense desire for a "new evangelization" worldwide.
To carry out the project, Fides is appealing for the cooperation of the Church in various countries.
Local churches are asked to send the texts of ordinary Christian prayers in the languages of their area to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The text of the prayers sent must be indicated in French, Italian or Latin, as well as in the corresponding language.
This will facilitate the elaboration of the dossier the missionary dicastery is working on, to offer faithful worldwide the following prayers:
1. Texts of the Ordinary of the Mass: the Confiteor, Kyrie, Gloria, Creed [Nicene-Constantinopolitan Symbol], Sanctus, Agnus Dei.
2. Texts of Christian daily prayers: Apostles Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father, mysteries of the rosary, act of Contrition, acts of faith, hope and charity, Memorare (St. Bernard's Prayer), the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.
3. Traditional prayers, some relative to Eucharistic and Marian devotion: Te Deum, Veni Creator, Veni Sancte Spiritus, O Salutaris Hostia, Tantum Ergo, Magnificat, Salve Regina, Alma Redemptoris Mater, Angelus, Regina Caeli, Stabat Mater, and the Loreto Litanies.
Fides notes that the Our Father is now available in more than 20 languages, and the Hail Mary in more than 30, at the following Web sites:
