The Pope made his appeal Saturday when he met with 150 participants in a meeting organized by the Italian National Federation of the Knights of Work.
The Holy Father asked the businessmen to become “promoters of an equitable and balanced growth of the economy,” adding that in “contemporary society, the family is often penalized by rules imposed by production and the market.”
“Therefore, among your efforts should be that of sustaining [the family] effectively so that it will always be respected as an active force in the sector of production and the economy,” John Paul II said.
“This is an even more urgent task in light of the present evolution of society, characterized by the process of globalization, within which must be safeguarded the values of solidarity, the guarantee of access to resources, and the just redistribution of the wealth produced,” he explained.
Lastly, the Pope requested businessmen “to invest in young people and help them overcome the disparity between education and the real demands of the production enterprises.”
