Ten thousand people will come together for the Men and Religion international meeting, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio in cooperation with the Milan Archdiocese.

Mario Marazziti, spokesman for Sant’Egidio, said the purpose of the event is to “discredit the use of religion to make war.”

From Sept. 5-7, more than 400 religious leaders from around the world will address conferences and other meetings being planned in Milan. The theme of the 2004 edition is “Religions and Cultures: The Courage of a New Humanism.”

“Dialogue is urgent and without alternatives,” said Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, archbishop of Milan, when presenting the event.
