“A Reconciled Family Becomes an Agent of Reconciliation” is the theme of the week planned for Nov. 25-Dec. 1 in the southern island, scene of violence and interreligious confrontations.

The initiative comes from the Bishops-Ulama Forum whose members are Catholic and non-catholic bishops and Muslim ulama, or teachers, living in the southern Philippines, the Vatican agency Fides reports.

This sixth Week for Peace will consist in a series of events, seminars, conferences, prayer meetings, awareness campaigns at all levels — on the streets, in schools and in cultural centers.

One aim will be to educate people, especially young people, to appreciate the religious and cultural differences within the Philippines. Another aim will be to help citizens to promote peace through daily life witness and participation in community initiatives.
