Monastic Conference Planned in Assisi

ASSISI, Italy, SEPT. 14, 2003 (ZENIT.orgFides).- Representatives of monastic orders in Europe will gather here this week for the annual convention promoted by Monastic Interreligious Dialogue.

The MID is a monastic entity for communion and dialogue between religions. It operates on all continents and in every country in Europe.

Participants in the Sept. 17-22 event will focus on the contribution of monasticism to interfaith and interreligious dialogue in view of building a future of peace in Europe. Monasticism helped unify Europe in the faith in the first millennium.

Among the scheduled speakers is Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
