New Members Named to Theological Commission

VATICAN CITY, JULY 27, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI appointed new members of the International Theological Commission, replacing those who served in the previous five-year period.

A Vatican communiqué announced the appointment Saturday of these members who will help the Holy See to examine important doctrinal questions.

The commission is presided over by the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, currently Cardinal William Levada.

It consists of no more than 30 members, who are named by the Pope for a period of five years.

The newly appointed members are:

— Father Marco Doldi, moral theology professor of at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy in Genoa.

— Dominican Father Gilles Emery, professor of systematic theology at the Theological Faculty of Fribourg, Switzerland.

— Father Mario Angel Flores, professor of systematic theology at the Theological Faculty of Mexico in Mexico City.

— Salesian Father Francis Gustilo, professor of theology and spirituality at the Don Bosco Center of Studies of Paranaque, Philippines.

— Father Javier Prades Lopez, professor of systematic theology at the Theological Faculty of Madrid, Spain.

— Father Michael Schulz, theology professor at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Bonn, Germany.

— Father Pierangelo Sequeri, professor of fundamental theology at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy in Milan.

— Father Philippe Vallin, professor of systematic theology at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Strasbourg, France.

— Father Guillermo Zuleta, professor of systematic theology and canon law at the University of Medellin, Colombia.
