Most Populous Muslim Nation Receives Vatican Representatives

Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim nation and a statement from the Pontifical Council today said this visit is aimed at boosting interreligious dialogue as a sign of respect and friendship, as urged by Pope Francis.

The two officials are the Council’s secretary, Father Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, and Father Markus Solo, a specialist on Islam in Asia and the Pacific.

During their visit, they are meeting with members of the Indonesian bishops’ conference and Catholic institutions involved in interreligious dialogue, as well as the three most important Islamic organizations in Indonesia, the Nahdlatul Ulama, the Muhammadiyah and the Ulama Council.
