“Evil will not have the last word because the crucified and risen Christ wins,” Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal told worshippers during Mass on Holy Thursday in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

Recalling how valuable Christ’s message of hope is for the world, especially in the most challenging and painful situations, Patriarch Twal said the forgiveness that Christ gives is “a source of interior and exterior serenity."

“It makes us artisans of peace in a world where division, suffering, injustice, hate and violence still reign,” he said.

Recalling the example of the washing of feet, he said: “We must hold out our hand, dry many tears, and heal many broken hearts in the face of the many brothers who arrive in the country, of the many wars and violence and of those who are homeless.

“This is the lesson and the message of Holy Thursday,” he said. (D.C.L.)
