The Archdiocese of Washington is inviting people to “Walk With Francis” before the Pope arrives to the United States next month, by pledging to pray, serve or act in imitation of him.

The Walk With Francis web site quotes the Holy Father’s affirmation, “All it takes is one good person to restore hope!” The site invites people to “Welcome Pope Francis to Washington by committing to follow his example of faith and service.”

An ongoing tally shows that close to 3,000 individuals and groups have already taken the pledge since the initiative was launched.

According to Religion News Service, one person who has made a pledge is Monsignor John Enzler, the president of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, who at the launch ceremony in July, announced his pledge to spend a night with Washington’s homeless before the Pope’s visit.

The web site includes ideas for pledge options under each of the three categories of pray, serve or act. The ideas range from learning to pray the rosary to donating baby items to joining a coalition to oppose assisted suicide, and many others.
