VATICAN CITY, OCT. 2, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI hopes that the closing celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions will lead "to a renewed spiritual life and to the witness of faith."
The Pope said this in a letter sent to his secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who will attend the celebrations in Portugal on Oct. 12-13 as the papal envoy.
The letter, published Saturday by the Holy See in Latin, expresses the desire that pilgrims participating in the closing ceremonies "can preserve in their souls the commitment to charity in daily life."
The celebrations mark the anniversary of the last of Mary's apparitions to three shepherd children in 1917.
