Concerns over tensions in eastern Europe were at the forefront of a meeting this morning between Pope Francis and Polish Prime Minister Donal Tusk.
During their private audience of "cordial discussions" at the Vatican, mention was also made of the recent canonization of John Paul II and its relevance for Poland.
Prime Minister Tusk expressed his pleasure at His Holiness’ planned visit to Poland in 2016, on the occasion of World Youth Day.
Attention turned to the social and economic situation of Poland and concluded with an exchange of views on the current international situation, especially persistent tensions in eastern Europe, namely between Ukraine, Russia and Crimea.
The Polish leader subsequently met with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States. (D.C.L.)
