At the end of today’s general audience, Pope Francis called for prayers for the victims of the inhuman terrorist acts that have occurred in recent days in Yemen, Australia and Pakistan.

“Now, a moment of silence and then, with the Our Father, I would like to pray together with you for the victims of the inhuman terrorist acts carried out in past days in Australia, Pakistan and Yemen,” he said. “May the Lord receive the deceased in his peace, comfort their families and convert the hearts of the violent, who do not stop — not even before children. Let us sing the Our Father, asking for this grace.”

In Pakistan, Taliban attacked a school on Tuesday, opening fire on the children and killing more than 130 of them, as well as school officials and staff, for a death toll of 141.

In Yemen, two car bombs on Tuesday killed more than 30 people, at least 20 children.

In Australia on Monday, 17 hostages were held at a downtown cafe until police stormed the cafe and killed the hostage-taker Tuesday, some 16 hours after the siege began. Two of the hostages died in the course of the siege.
