Pope Francis met yesterday with President Filip Vujanović of Montenegro at the Apostolic Palace.

According to a communique by the Holy See Press Office, the Holy Father and President Vujanović reinforced their commitment to bilateral relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Montenegro.

Relations between the two states were reinforced by the Basic Agreement, signed in 2011, that “promotes collaboration between the Church and the State for the common good of society.”

“Mention was then made of various themes of common interest, focusing on the principal regional questions and Montenegro’s progress towards integration in European and Euro-Atlantic institutions,” the communique stated.

After his meeting with Pope Francis, President Vujanović met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States. (J.A.E.)
