VATICAN CITY, MAY 17, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II expressed the hope that the Olympics, to be held in Athens from Aug. 13-19, will be a "message of peace."
The Pope expressed this desire Saturday when he received Dora Bakoyiannis, mayor of the Greek capital, in audience.
"I hope that the holding of the Olympic Games in your city will be a manifestation of fraternity for all the participants and a message of peace and union for all the spectators throughout the world," the Pope said in his brief address, delivered in French.
