Pope Meets With U.N. Nuclear Agency Leader

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 8, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI received in audience the director of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, , who is taking part in negotiations regarding nuclear proliferation in Iran.
The Vatican press office did not give details about today's meeting with Mohamed ElBaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency. ElBaradei came to the Vatican accompanied by his wife and an entourage.
The visit takes place on the eve of the audience that the Holy Father will grant Saturday to U.S. President George Bush.
In December 2005, Benedict XVI sent a message congratulating ElBaradei on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In that message, the Pope called the proliferation of nuclear weapons a threat to peace.
